Abstract (en)

Describes a previously-unpublished group of ca.20 monolithic monuments from central-eastern Sardinia, probably 6th-7th cs., of the type known as perdas fittas ("embedded stones") in Sardinian, here characterized by geometric decorations incorporating Christian symbols. Compares the decoration to North African sculptural decoration of the same period and to Early Christian monuments (pierres levées) in Ireland, 6th-8th cs. Using semiotic analysis, suggests that the decoration of the stone designated "element F" from Suelli is linked to certain Irish crosses by the common "text" of the Tree of Life (Apocalypse II:7).
