Abstract (en)

Summarizes the results of technical analysis of the Byzantine icon of the Virgin in S. Maria Assunta, Spoleto, and discusses its iconography: the Madonna Hagiosoritissa holding a scroll with the prayer of intercession. Questions the traditional dating of before 1185. Includes excerpts from a description of the 1668 translation of the icon to the cathedral.
