Abstract (en)

Results of 1985-1986 excavations of a mound in northern Iraq known as Khirbet Deir Situn. Describes the mid to late-12th c. stone church which collapsed in the 14th or 15th c. On the basis of a deposit of ca.6th c. Sassanid pottery found beneath this building, as well as literal readings of the site name as "ruins of the columned monastery" or "the monastery with the (single) column", suggests there may have been a Stylite monastery on the site in the 6th c.
