Rescue excavations in 1971/1972 examined remains of four structures within the 'courtyard farm' complex of one croft. This represented the amalgamation of two earlier croft units towards the end of the medieval period. Three of the structures had typical 'longhouse' plans, their similarity raising questions of function and changing roles of buildings within the complex. Wide range of artefacts found provided additional evidence for their use showing occupation until the late 17th c. confirmed by documentary evidence.
