Reflections on George Herriman's comic strip Krazy Kat, and its appropriation by Sherrie Levine in a series of 1988 paintings. Argues that these paintings as well as her recent abstractions are caricatures of the avant-garde, cartoons of withering power: artistic, social, political, economic.
