Presents evidence from descriptions and documents casting light on the history of the sculptural decoration of the facade of the Monte della Misericordia in Naples, a commission (calling for representation of the seven acts of mercy by means of two female allegorical figures and a Madonna of Mercy) rejected by Bernini in 1660 and awarded in 1666 to Andrea Falcone working under Cosimo Fanzago.
