Analyzes Leonardo's observations on the visual experience of the transparency of non-transparent objects in both monocular and stereoscopic vision and on the relationship of this phenomenon to the quest for rilievo in painting; also comments on the knowledge of optics Leonardo might have expected from the painter-theoretician as opposed to the ordinary workshop painter.
