Presents a census and typological analysis of portals of palaces in Genoa, 16th-18th cs., decorated with armor and trophy motifs modeled on the antique, including helmets, shields, and breastplates. Notes that the type originated ca.1530 with the portal of Andrea Doria's palace (Palazzo Doria Pamphily).
