Presents new evidence casting doubt on Baldinucci's description of the "concorso Massimi": an autograph document by Caravaggio (1605), concerning paintings commissioned by Massimo Massimi, the Crowning with Thorns (Prato, Galleria di Palazzo degli Alberti) and, presumably, the Ecce Homo in Palazzo Rosso, Genoa; as well as a record of payment to Cigoli, 1607, for his Ecce Homo (Florence, Galleria Palatina), ordered by Massimi as a pendant to Caravaggio's Crowning with Thorns. Includes appendices with documents (1606) linking the convent of S. Maria Maddalena al Quirinale, Rome, to patrons of Caravaggio; and a bibliography on the two paintings by Caravaggio.
