Surveys and analyzes the significance of recently discovered information about Caravaggio, especially: establishment of his birth date (29 Sept 1571), the discovery of an autograph letter (1605) concerning the Massimi Ecce Homo (Genoa, Palazzo Rosso), new evidence of violent acts, including the fact that he was condemned to death, not merely banished, for murder in 1606, and new material regarding his periods in Malta and Naples.
