Interprets the iconography of Caravaggio's Penitent Magdalen (Rome, Galleria Doria Pamphili) in light of arguments that the bottle at her feet contains not nard but wine and that the Madonna in the Rest on the Flight into Egypt (also Galleria Doria Pamphili) represents the Bride in the Song of Songs.
