Shows how Flaxman in the 1770s copied classical subjects and interpretation of antiquity (sketchbook, Cambridge, Fitzwilliam Museum) from the illustrations in D'Hancarville's The Collection of Etruscan, Greek and Roman Antiquities from the Cabinet of the Honourable William Hamilton (Naples, 1766-1776). Demonstrates how the same source was utilized by decorators of Wedgwood pottery ca.1790.
