Reexamines evidence and arguments concerning "early" versus "late" dating of the construction of Old S. Peter's (Rome, Vatican); focuses on three building inscriptions, and finds evidence supporting the early dating: start of demolition and building operations after 317-320, possibly in 321-322, and dedication possibly 18 Nov 333. Places the architecture in an experimental period in large-scale church building during the reign of Constantine.
