Argues that a 4th c. B.C. sculpture, reflected in a vase relief discovered in Megara, 1980, depicting a dancing maenad with a small Eros, was the source for the Neo-classical sculptor's composition for Day, 1815 (København, Thorvaldsens museum), rather than Baroque painting as has been commonly accepted.
