Abstract (en)

A recent retrospective exhibition devoted to the sculptures and paintings of Lucio Fontana at the Musée national d'art moderne, Paris, prompts this examination of Fontana's oeuvre and its critical reception. Notes the relationship of kitsch to his work, and proposes a parallel between Fontana's work and Georges Bataille's concept of the "informe".
