Examines Isabella Stewart Gardner's overall concept for the museum in Boston which bears her name, and questions the recent efforts of the museum's trustees to seek a "reinterpretation" of Mrs. Gardner's will that would allow them to transform the fourth floor of the museum from an apartment for the director to office facilities. Argues that such a change would irreversibly alter the character of the museum.
