Abstract
(en)
Report on the seminar on the preservation of scholarly resources convened at Spring Hill, Wayzata (Minnesota), 29 Sept-1 Oct 1988, under the auspices of the Commission on Preservation and Access. Discussion focused on three areas: the dependence of art historical scholarship upon images and the consequent need for preservation of brittle books and photo archives; selective review of existing technologies, including electronic imaging, photographic technology, and computer networking of visual images; and development of recommendations for action. Publishes Deirdre C. Stam's review of the use of illustrated texts by art historians, with an appendix summarizing recent articles in volumes 68-70 (1986-1988) of the Art Bulletin on the state of research in various areas of art history.
