Abstract (en)

Notes the problem of distinguishing between real and mythic isles in the Atlantic as portrayed in 15th c. maps. Suggests that a 15th c. Italian map here tentatively attributed to Battista Beccari (sold by Christie's in 1988) may be the first to reflect the discovery of the Azores by the Portuguese in the 1420s or 30s.
