In connection with the recent publication of a facsimile edition (Lisboa: Administração do Porto de Lisboa, 1990), discusses the atlas of maps of the 6th-17th cs. compiled in the mid-19th c. by the Visconde de Santarém to demonstrate the priority of the Portuguese discoveries in Africa.
