History of Portuguese royal portraiture, 16th-18th cs. Notes the early influence of Titian and Sánchez Coello, followed by a sharp decline in quality. Focuses on paintings of John V by Duprà in the library of the Universidade de Coimbra and the palace of Vila Viçosa, and a portrait bust by Alessandro Giusti at Mafra.
