Examines changes in the management of machinery design at Rhode Island machine-tool makers Brown & Sharpe in 1911. At that time there was a break with non-mechanical decoration in favor of a functional machine aesthetic, and all designs had to conform to a style manual issued by the Chief Draughtsman.
