Presents new documentary evidence establishing that the tin-glazed earthenware known as Talavera was produced at Puebla as early as 1573, and gives a history of its production and distribution, 16th c. to the present, and of the guild and ordinances governing production, 1652-1820. Includes discussion of gilded earthenware and tiles during the 17th c.
