Outlines the history of festivals celebrating Spanish kings in Mexico City in the 18th c.; discusses the transformation of the Baroque city by the viceroy Revillagigedo; notes the role of the Academia de S. Carlos in introducing Neo-classicism; and describes the career of the architect and city planner Ignacio de Castera. Focuses on the celebration of the Oath of Carlos IV, on the basis of documents, descriptions, and Castera's projects for temporary architecture and decorations.
