Publishes a facsimile of a portrait of Luís de Camões and of the pages of description, dedication and other material accompanying it; preceded by an essay by Serrão on the career and oeuvre of the Mannerist painter Fernão Gomes, with an updated chronology; and an essay by Graça Moura identifying the portrait (collection of the Comissão Nacional para as Comemorações dos Descobrimentos Portugueses) as a faithful copy executed in the 19th c. by Luís José Pereira de Resende after the lost original drawing of Camões by Fernão Gomes (here dated 1573-1579), which was presumably to serve as a model for an engraved portrait for the title-page of an early edition of the Lusíadas.
