Argues that the relief of the Annunciation in N.S. de Belém, Rio de Mouro, dates like the church itself from the 3d quarter of the 16th c., and that it originally formed part of the decoration of the facade. Analyzes the iconography, focusing on the representation of the soul of Jesus, a Medieval motif. Surveys Renaissance sculpture in the Sintra region to provide a context for the relief, and attributes it tentatively to a local follower of Chanterene.
