Discusses possible attributions among painters of the Marche for the design of the embroidered panels of the altar cloth of the cathedral of Ancona, and dates them to the 1470s. Describes the worked velvet (probably Venetian, mid-15th c.) that forms the main part of the cloth. Suggests that the embroidered panels originally formed part of a vestment. Analyzes the iconography, which includes episodes from the Legend of the True Cross and the only known representation of the martyrdom of S. Cyriacus.
