Abstract
(en)
Discusses art in Milan after the Ottonian annexation of northern Italy. Suggests, on the basis of stylistic analysis, that the Italian artist Johannes or Giovanni (here called "Johannes Italus") who painted the frescoes of the cathedral of Aachen was also the illuminator of the Registrum Gregorii (Trier, Stadtbibliothek, MS. 171a) and perhaps the carver of the ivory Madonna and Child in the Mittelrheinisches Landesmuseum, Mainz, all from the late 10th or early 11th c.
