Addresses several questions central to the interpretation of Carolingian uncial: is Frankish late 8th and 9th c. uncial "artificial" or "natural"? Is it a deliberate recreation or a refinement of an existing script? To what degree is a particular script type used with a particular text type? Is Frankish uncial sufficiently distinctive to assign a manuscript to a particular atelier? Publishes a hitherto unrecorded fragment belonging to the Lothar Palace school group produced in Aachen between 842 and 855.
