Abstract
(en)
Discusses the architectural symbolism of the tower of Utrecht Cathedral (1312-1382). Argues that the depiction of the tower in the Adoration of the Lamb altarpiece (Gent, S. Bavo) was added as a commemoration of the mission of its commissioner, Joos Vijd, to Utrecht in 1425. In the painting the tower symbolizes the Heavenly Jerusalem.
