Discusses the controversy between the painter and author Jan van Gool and the art dealer Gerard Hoet. The latter was insulted by van Gool's suggestion in De Nieuwe Schouburg (1751) that the contemporary decline of Dutch painting was caused by art dealers giving unreliable advice to art collectors.
