Abstract
(en)
Examination of documentary evidence for the period 1549 to 1553 corrects misconceptions about Titian and the portraits of Philip. Revised dating allows a reassessment of attribution and stylistic development. Argues that visual records do survive of the portrait (ca.1550-1551) sent to Mary Tudor in 1553. Danaë and the Shower of Gold (Madrid, Prado) can be re-dated to ca.1549/1550.
