Abstract (en)

Discusses the painting which is signed and dated 1542 (West Berlin, Gemäldegalerie) concluding: "The Berlin painting's uniqueness consists in that the regular formula of the state portrait is used to glorify a child in her being just a child, without projecting adult ambitions. Titian's painting thus ... paves a road to our modern perception of a child qua child."
