Reviews the exhibition held 1 Sept-12 Nov 1989 at the Palazzo del Te and the Palazzo Ducale, which included the recently restored architecture and frescoes of Palazzo del Te as well as paintings, drawings and tapestries by Giulio Romano. Focuses on the catalogue, addressing problems of the early period, Giulio's relationship to Raphael, and the early chronology of his period in Mantua. Notes that the authors generally accept the late birthdate of 1499; discusses attributions and their implications; and draws attention to a little-known drawing in a private collection.
