Finds such close correspondences between the frescoes of the Story of Isaac in the Upper Church of S. Francesco, Assisi, and the sculptures of Arnolfo di Cambio as to suggest that he may have actually been the painter, or the master who directed the painting of the frescoes. Rejects the attribution to Giotto on grounds of technique and style, arguing, however, that Giotto was influenced by Arnolfo.
