Studies the practices of the Opera del Duomo of Florence in the 14th and 15th cs., especially the evolution of consensus-building processes and the relation of this to republicanism and the Comune of Florence; and interprets the documentary evidence concerning Brunelleschi and the cupola of S. Maria del Fiore in this context and with reference to Manetti's account.
