Detailed reconstruction of the career of Bernardino di Piero Basso, a neighbor and family acquaintance of Michelangelo's from childhood and his longtime, versatile assistant, who also served as director of works at S. Lorenzo in Florence. Casts light on the web of professional, family, and neighborhood ties uniting the more than 200 assistants who worked for Michelangelo at S. Lorenzo, and on the workings of a large Renaissance building project.
