Reviews the exhibition Magiciens de la Terre (Paris, Centre George Pompidou and Grande halle de la Villette) which includes works by 100 contemporary artists--half from the centers of western culture, half from the "periphery." The organizers aim to demonstrate that western colonialism and imperialism have not been able to wipe out the culture of undeveloped nations.
