Studies the representation of Adam and the animals in Byzantine illuminated manuscripts, and suggests Jewish sources for some aspects of the iconography. Focuses on the two scenes characteristic of the Octateuchs; examines Adam's garment of glory in the second scene; and draws attention to an iconographic variant in scenes of the naming of the animals in Byzantine psalters.
