Studies the illuminations illustrating the story of the mandylion, the image of Christ's face given by Christ himself to Abgar of Edessa, in MS lat. 2688 of the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris (Pseudo-Matthew, Infancy of Christ and history of the sudarium); and compares these, the only known Western Abgar cycle, executed probably in Rome in the second half of the 13th c., with surviving Byzantine examples, in order to identify sources and relationships.
