Thoughts on the concept of "phenomenal transparency" in 20th c. painting and architecture. Slutzky refers principally to his and Colin Rowe's two-part essay "Transparency: literal and phenomenal" (Perspecta 1963 and 1971) in which artist and architect distinguished between and elaborated upon two modes of space operative in modern aesthetics.
