Detailed study of the schemes of the 1390s and 1490s for the cupola of Milan cathedral and of the various projects, proposals and reports of the 1480s and 90s concerning it. Concludes that the cupola as it was eventually built by Amadeo and Dolcebuono derives entirely from traditional Lombard architectural practices and theory, that much of it depended upon decisions taken in the 1390s, and that opinions of Bramante, Leonardo, and Francesco di Giorgio had no bearing on it. Appendix with documents, 1489-1490.
