Abstract (en)

Examination of two plans by John Thorpe and the evidence of excavations carried out 1949-1984 suggests that Aston Hall (Birmingham) was in fact built ca.1618-1640 to plans of Thorpe's devising. Also discusses the use and decoration of the house in the 17th c.
