On the squares and fountains of Taxco, pre-Hispanic to the present. Notes the impact of the Franciscan missionaries and their emphasis on popular life, in contrast to the style of viceregal officialdom; and discusses the importance of silversmithing in Taxco, revived in the early 20th c. by William Spratling.
