Abstract (en)

Discusses the art form of the moving panorama. Focuses on Russell and Purrington's painting, 1848 (two of its four sections are on display in the New Bedford Whaling Museum). Agrees that the painting which toured the United States, 1848-1851, most likely influenced Melville's Moby-Dick (1851).
