Abstract (en)
Discusses science and the social elite during the early reign of Louis XV as the context for the following objects, acquired by the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu: a pair of celestial and terrestrial globes by Nollet (1728 and 1730) in collaboration with the engravers Nicolas Bailleul and Louis Borde, with stands attributed to the Martin workshop; and a compound microscope with case, made in Paris ca.1749.
