Abstract (en)

Silver gilt casket signed and dated 1570, probably presented in that year to Maximilian II and his wife Maria of Austria by the Council of the City of Nuremberg. Maria later presented the casket to the convent of Descalzas Reales, Madrid, as a reliquary with the bones of S. Victor of Xanten. Author makes a detailed analysis of the iconographical program, and reports on a 1987-1988 technical examination and restoration program.
