Reviews an exhibition at the Museum voor Volkenkunde, Rotterdam, Art from another world, the first major show of contemporary non-western art to be staged in Holland. Discusses why this exhibition is shown in an ethnological museum and not in a 'museum of art', contrasting it with a comparable exhibition, Magiciens de la terre, to be held at the Musée national d'art moderne, Paris.
