Studies an Early Christian impost block in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston; argues that it was carved in Ravenna, mid-6th c., and that it belongs to a 5th or 6th c. Byzantine colonette in the same collection; reconstructs the original setting as the central element of a window, probably of a church.
