Examines questions regarding Simone's workshop (especially the role of Lippo Memmi) and the typology of the polyptychs produced in it, in relation to the Madonna and Child with Saints by Simone, ca.1320, in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston. Proposes that the Boston polyptych originally comprised seven panels, reconstructs it, and studies its relationship to the dismembered altarpiece of the Conservatorio di S. Bernardo, Montepulciano (of which the Madonna and Child is in the Pinacoteca of Siena).
