Abstract (en)

Examines the feminist influence on late 1980s avant-garde art by New York and West German women artists. Notes that this new feminist art is less likely to be painting (a male-dominated medium) and more likely to be executed in alternative media, especially photography and installations. Cites in particular the work of Rebecca Horn, Jenny Holzer, Rosemarie Trockel, Sherrie Levine, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, Louise Lawler, Annette Lemieux, and Katharina Fritsch.
